Tile Roofing System

Concrete, clay and slate tiles have special characteristics of improving with age. As such, tile residential roofing systems are considered a premium product with a premium cost. Though tile roofs are marked with high initial costs, the longevity and reduced depreciation means the effective cost of tiles, over their life span, is significantly lower than a composition shingle roof.

Tile roofs, in addition to having lower effective costs, also provide thermal efficiency. The natural airspace around the tiles creates natural ventilation to release heat buildup on the roof deck. One of the most popular energy-efficient tile roofing systems is Moiner LifeTile by Boral.

Advantages of Tile Roofing are:

  • Long-lasting
  • Environmentally safe products
  • High thermal properties
  • Resilient to extreme weather conditions

Wood Roofing System

Wood shakes and shingles are made from either red or white cedar. Cedar is unique to other roofing materials because it contains natural oils that ward off bugs, while fighting mildew and degeneration. Residential roofing systems are also thermal resistant, which helps your home be more energy efficient.

As wood shingles and shakes age, they turn a silvery grey color. If maintained correctly, wood roofing can last up to 60 years. When a wood shingle or shake roof has reached its lifespan, it can be recycled into mulch.

The Advantages of Wood Roofing are:

  • Have a lifespan of 50-60 years, if properly maintained
  • Provide thermal resistance, conserving energy by reducing the necessity for heating and cooling
  • Naturally weather resistant, and can withstand extreme temperature variations
  • Easily repairable

Slate tiles are made of 100% natural stone, which is not only environmentally friendly, but works to keep your home better insulated and in turn, lower your energy use. Slate roofing is extremely durable, providing solid protection against heavy rain, snow, and wind. Slate roofs are not affected by fungus and mold, which make them practically maintenance free.

For those of you who love the look of slate roofing, but are wanting something a little more lightweight, synthetic slate is also a great option.

  • Can last over a century if properly maintained
  • Available in a variety of sizes, thicknesses, and colors
