Choosing Your Roofing Contractor

Choosing Your Roofing Contractor

When it comes time to replace or repair your roof, choosing a roofer may seem like a daunting task. Here are a few tips you may need to help you pick a quality roofer in a timely matter. (HINT: The easiest plan would be to call Lone-Star Roof Systems, LP. today for all your residential and commercial roofing needs!!!)

On a serious note, get at least 3 different estimates. Assess the estimates you acquire and compare what each different price includes. This will help you feel confident and satisfied in your final decision. Don’t jump the gun or make assumptions when comparing roofers. The lowest price is not always the best choice. Quality workmanship should always be the first priority. Make sure your roofer is charging a fair price without cutting corners. On the contrary, the highest price does not always equal higher quality service. Some roofers may assume that you are unfamiliar with the trade and try to take advantage of this by overcharging. Pay close attention to reviews and feedback on each contractor.

When picking your roofer, consider whether or not the company is local. Frequently national companies, frequently known as “storm chasers,” will travel to where the work is. Storm chasers follow storms that leave heavy damage, looking for work in areas they know little about. They don’t know the specific needs of roofs in your region, and will regularly offer one of the lowest prices to secure your job. Here’s the catch: these roofers will be gone as fast as they arrived. If they left your home with a “fast repair,” chances are you will have leaks and damage reappear within a matter of weeks, but by then, these roofers will be long gone. These national companies are known for going in and out of business fast. To avoid legal battles they tend to change their name and start up new and fresh companies. Make sure to do your research on your potential roofer. Once again, beware of a low price because this can indicate workers will cut corners and may show up with inadequate tools and/or materials. If they offer to waive your deductible, they are committing INSURANCE FRAUD.

Choose a roofing company that you feel comfortable with. A good way to determine this is to check references or ask for recommendations from trusted neighbors or friends in your community. If you are new to the area, ask your potential contractor for references to previous clients. The easiest question you can ask is if they would hire the roofer again. Additionally, ask to see pictures of past jobs. A reputable roofer will not only be glad to give this information, but when you check, they will be shown in a positive light! Avoid roofing contractors who seem unwilling or disinterested in offering up this information.

No matter how quickly you need your roof repaired, make sure to do your research on your potential roofing contractor. Check their references, licenses, and reviews online. It doesn’t take too long, and it can save you a huge amount of time and money in the long run.

Thanks and gig ’em!
